Study after a Figure in the “Procession of the Magi” Fresco in Santissima Annunziata, Florence
Red and black chalk on paper 15 x8 ⅜ inches (38.1 x 21.3 cm)
Provenance:
Private Collection, USA.
This drawing is a sketch after a figure in the left foreground of Andrea del Sarto’s fresco of the Procession of the Magi in Santissima Annunziata, Florence (Fig. 1). It has been suggested that this work is by the Florentine artist Gregorio Pagani, who is known to have used paper exhibiting the same watermark as found in the paper of the present work (Briquet 1884).
